Saundersfoot began their 2010 Carruthers Shield campaign on Saturday when they played current holders Tenby.

After defeat in the league two weeks previously, the village side can be proud of their achievement, winning on one rink and drawing on another.

If this had been a league match, the visitors would had clinched three valuable points and been the first club to take points from the mighty Tenby side this year.

Top rink of the day was Roy Kennion, Neville Ruff, Paul Blayney and captain Steve Dick, who beat Pat Currie's foursome by three shots, while Alan Brain, Terry Lamkin, new member Brian Desmond and Steve Poole drew 19-all with Andrew Muskett's rink.

John Moffat, Joe Dennis, John Jenkins and Berwyn Dennis found Phil Carpenter and his boys in excellent form and only managed to score on six of the 21 ends.

Simon Evans, who was a member of the Carruthers Shield winning team at Tenby, and his rink of Graham Hughes, Neil Hensman and Macky Brace suffered a 26-9 at the hands of the Tenby captain Paul Diment and co.

Saundersfoot's next Carruthers game in the group stage is home to Milford on Sunday.

Rink scores (Saundersfoot first, Tenby skips only) were:

R. Kennion, N. Ruff, P. Blayney, S. Dick 19; P. Currie 16.

A. Brain, T. Lamkin, B. Desmond, S. Poole 19; A. Muskett 19.

J. Moffat, J. Dennis, J. Jenkins, B. Dennis 9; P. Carpenter 27.

G. Hughes, N. Hensman, M. Brace, S. Evans 9; P. Diment 26.

Saundersfoot entertain cowbridge

The weather provided a sunny Saundersfoot welcome for the visitors from Cowbridge on Sunday.

Both teams enjoyed what turned out to be a closely fought match, ending in a win for the home team by 112 shots to 101.

Top team skipper, Barrie Lee, ably supported by John Evans, Brian Desmond and Elaine Shaw, took the lead from the off and did not relinquish it, winning all but six ends.

Unfortunately, Brian McKehon had to leave the game as his wife had an accident during the afternoon. We all send her our best wishes for a speedy recovery. Many thanks to the Cowbridge player who stepped into the breach and did her best for the rink.

As usual, a convivial time was had by all after the match and the visitors left, looking forward to a return visit next year.

The overall match scores were as follows:

J. Evans, E. Shaw, B. Desmond, B. Lee won 29-9.

A. Evans, D. Rowan, B. McKehon, S. Howe lost 19-28.

B. Glynn, N. Hensman, J. Howe, B. Deeley drew 16-16.

D. Reed, J. Austin, B. Lawrence, K. Rowland lost 14-22.

T. Lamkin, A. Davies, M. Carr (capt.), R. Pring won 21-9.
