PENDINE JUNIORS 20 SAUNDERSFOOT JUNIORS 42

This return match between these two sets of juniors was unfortunately curtailed somewhat thanks to the heavy rain. Whilst the youngsters wanted to get out and play, it was the adults with them who insisted they wait until the rain eased. Certainly, if enthusiasm has anything to do with it, these juniors will go all the way.

The Saundersfoot Juniors found the heavier Pendine rink a bit tricky to start with, but after a few ends, they stepped up a gear and once again, along with their hosts, showed just why this game will last for many years with such budding talent to lead the way.

Bethan Gosnold and Brittany Francis combined well and, despite being way behind, they stuck to their guns, eventually losing narrowly. Joe Criddle with Chelsea Harris took a couple of ends to get going, then hit top gear and never let go, romping home by 13 shots.

Captain for the day, Joe Dennis, once again led by example. With his partner for the day, Katy Waters, in excellent form, peppering the jack at any length, Joe was also in top form, winning by 14 shots. Next door, Rachel Hensman took the helm to lead exciting newcomer Liz Goldwait. Despite their combined inexperience, these two have so much talent and are exciting to watch. Despite losing out at the finish, they definitely have talent for the future.

All of the children are to be congratulated on their efforts and willingness to play. Thanks also to the parents who supported them, and to the club members who made the effort to come along and show the juniors they do matter.

PHOTOGRAPH

All members who represented the Saundersfoot first team at any time during the season are asked to be at the green 'no later' than 10.45 am on Sunday morning, in order for the team photograph to be taken. Dress of the day will be greys, blazer, shirt and tie. Players may, if they wish, change into casual wear for the team lunch afterwards.

PEMBROKESHIRE FINANCIAL SERVICES SINGLES COMPETITION

This competition, being run for the first time, attracted 30 members. In groups of five, it was run as a round robin in the opening stages.

Some superb bowling in all of the groups meant that the winners in two or three had to be decided by shot difference, and that was as close as it could be in a couple of them.

Winners of the sections were Steve Dick, Mackie Brace, Marion Evans, Ann Lewis, Graham Hughes and Brian Deeley. These were then drawn to play, with the top two on shots playing in the actual final.

After some slick calculations with the calculator, Graham Hughes and Marion Evans were decided as the lucky two, and in an exciting last game, thoroughly enjoyed by all in perfect bowling weather, Graham eventually came out as the first ever winner of the trophy.

Pembrokeshire Financial Services have been the club's main sponsors for some years now, and it is thanks to their generous sponsorship that this tournament was such a success. I am sure next year it will be a case of get your name down early if you want to play.

PRESENTATION EVENING

Last Sunday saw the presentation of the trophies to the winners of the club competitions. Unfortunately, a there was a low turnout for what used to be the highlight of the season. Nevertheless, those that did make the effort had an enjoyable night.

Club president John Dugmore made the journey from Newquay to present the trophies and thanked Barry and Joan Lee for their hard work in running the show this season. He also congratulated the winners and the losers for getting so far, making special mention of the fact that the juniors in the club were now making the break into the 'Big Time', which could only be good for the club's future.

At the end of the presentations, a buffet was enjoyed by all.
