In a little under 10 weeks, the Welsh public has the chance to elect new leadership - and in a brand-new proportional voting system, residents of Pembrokeshire can now vote for their party of choice, rather than voting tactically.

Pembrokeshire joins Ceredigion to form one new constituency, known as Ceredigion Penfro.

The new constituency will elect 6 members of Senedd to represent them on devolved matters such as Health, Education, Tourism and the Welsh language.

Voters will choose their party of choice under a new proportional representation system.

Plaid Cymru's lead candidate for Ceredigion Penfro, Elin Jones MS said: "Plaid Cymru has a fresh offering for the people of Pembrokeshire. We’ve seen in rural west Wales that it’s becoming increasingly difficult to make ends meet and that our public services have been slowly eroded.

"Take the recent example of Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest and the decision to downgrade emergency services. This is going to result in very real and life-changing consequences for Pembrokeshire residents. Travel time to get critical care will increase and, in an area where public transport is patchy, it is going to be so much more challenging for patients and their loved ones to get the care that they need.

"Plaid Cymru will take different decisions to the current Welsh Government and has costed plans to improve how the NHS works in Wales. Things like local treatment centres to get people on waiting lists treated faster and the speeding up of referrals so that people in Pembrokeshire get the timely care they deserve.”

Talking about the economy in west Wales, Cris said; "Rural Wales shouldn't be managed — it should be empowered to thrive. That's why Plaid Cymru's plans for the economy speak directly to communities like ours here in Pembrokeshire. We will reform business rates to support the Welsh-owned businesses that are the heart of our high streets and the backbone of our local economies.

"We will create a new National Development Agency for Wales to help Welsh businesses grow and stay Welsh-owned, and reform the Development Bank of Wales to make it easier for Welsh businesses to access the finance they need. Pembrokeshire deserves more than managed decline — and with Plaid Cymru, that is exactly what we intend to deliver."
