It seems that no sooner had you struggled to fit in your games in the club competitions before the cut off date, and you are on the 'phone trying to organise the next round - that is if you have been lucky enough to get through. If not, then there's plenty of time to have a roll up on the green, providing the weather stays kind.

SAUNDERSFOOT 38

PEMBROKE DOCK LADIES 34

Once again a number of ladies away, and unable to play in this game, but with the weather at least smiling on them, those that took to the green gave a fighting performance to keep their strong title challenge going.

CLEDDAU 26

SAUNDERSFOOT

Their second game was in as many days, and the Saundersfoot Ladies' tails were high as they travelled to take on Cleddau girls.

Marion Evans's rink was in storming form, hammering Kerry Frayling's rink by 22 shots.

Next door, Benita White, having got over her jet lag, led her rink to a good win over L. Pilgrim by four shots.

DIVISION TWO

ST. BRIDES 57 (0 pts)

FISHGUARD 83 (14)

Still smiling despite finding that they are still holding up the rest of the teams in the league, St. Brides, with once again a much changed team, met up with Fishguard, and with just a touch of luck could have picked up a few points. Maybe next time lads.

Rink scores (St. Brides first, Fishguard skips only):

N. Griffiths, C. Thomas, M. Brewer, R. Brabon 13; M. Power 19.

J. Bingham, L. Waters, J. Cleaver, J. Lawrence 16; D. Hughes 17.

ST. ISSELL'S LADIES 44

PENDINE LADIES B 28

The ladies of St. Issell's have been plugging away this season, picking up the points here and there and generally showing that they have come on heaps over the year or so since their formation.

Against Pendine, Beryl Lawrence's rink ran riot with a 17-shot win, while Amanda Lewis just missed out on a clean sweep by one shot.

Rink scores (St. Issell's Ladies first, Pendine Ladies B skips only):

L. Statters, M. Cavell, A. Howells, A. J. Lewis 20; D. Howells 21.

TENBY 62 (0 pts)

SAUNDERSFOOT 114 (14)

If you enjoyed a quiet evening's stroll last Thursday night in the Tenby area you were obviously nowhere near the bowling green. The local derby between the home club and neighbours Saundersfoot was taking place, and it was no place for the faint-hearted, I can tell you. Talk about the adrenaline rush, you could have picked it up and packaged it, there was so much of it about.

In the end, the visitors were celebrating a fabulous win, taking all 14 points, which moves them within touching distance at the top of the table, and with a game in hand. Makes the mouth water just thinking about it.

Rink scores (Saundersfoot first, Tenby skips only):

A. White, T. Thomas, T. Cummings, Dave Poole 35; D. Morgan 11.

G. Spiller, K. Taylor, Macky Brace, Don Poole 24; S. Evans 20.

A. Brain, Merv Brace, M. Dennis, S. Poole 27; J. Baggot 16.

G. Cavell, J. Roberts, J. Smalley, B. Dennis 23; P. Currie 15.

BREWERS CUP

CASTLE 81 (4 pts)

ST. ISSELL'S 83 (10)

A midweek game at Haverfordwest against the tricky Castle is not for the faint-hearted. With their 100 per cent record so far in the Brewers Cup, St. Issell's team, minus a few regulars, had it all to do.

It was a gutsy fighting game from both teams, with Dave Roberts's rink hanging on to make it a narrow two-shot victory, and the cup still tantalisingingly out of reach.

Rink scores (St. Issell's first, Castle skips only):

J. Roberts, D. Howells, J. Moffatt, J. Dugmore 29; D. Absalom 15.

R. Kennion, P. Bissell, M. Brace, D. Robb 18; T. Chalmers 28.

J. Austin, S. Arris, M. Gouldingay, D. Roberts 15; J. M. Jones 19.

D. Stokes, D. Newton, J. Evans, A. Brace 21; J. Lewis 19.

TENBY 31

SAUNDERSFOOT

LADIES 47

On a night playing alongside the shall we say slightly vociferous men's teams, the ladies of Saundersfoot managed to keep their excellent league chances on line.

Benita White's rink lost by just the one, while Marion Evans kept her winning streak going with a 17-shot win.

Rink scores (Saundersfoot Ladies first, Tenby skips only):

A. Hughes, A. Davies, M. Cummings, M. Evans 29; J. Dorling 12.

N. Crocker, K. Kennion, L. Bissell, B. White 18; M. Marquiss 19.

ST. ISSELL'S 96 (14 pts)

ST. BRIDES 49 (0)

The last time these two club teams met in the league, the St. Brides players were certainly not interested in letting their 'big brothers' get the better of them, taking four points.

This time the boot was on the other foot, as the St. Issell's players are on a high, and are after every point they can get. There is no sentiment in this game folks, it is a case of every man for himself.

Rink scores (St. Issell's first, St. Brides skips only):

J. Austin, S. Arris, M. Gouldingay, M. Brace 25; J. Lawrence 16.

B. Deeley, D. Howells, J. Moffatt, J. Dugmore 26; R. Brabon 10.

D. Stokes, D. Newton, P. Blayeney, A. Brace 28; M. Brewer.

R. Kennion, P. Bissell, K. Taylor, D. Robb 17; T. Bullock 14.

PEMBROKE

DOCK B 64 (2 pts)

ST. ISSELL'S 84 (12)

A win for the St. Issell's lads at home in the league gave them the urge to travel to the Dock with reasonably high hopes, but the Dockers B team are no pushovers, they were equally determined to get their revenge.

Captain Steve James was delighted to be drawn against John Dugmore's rink, and looking for revenge, he got it with a two-shot win. Elsewhere, the visitors were the winners.

Rink scores (St. Issell's first, Pembroke Dock B skips only):

J. Austin, D. Greaves, M. Gouldingay, D. Roberts 25; J. Woods 15.

D. Stokes, D. Newton, J. Evans, A. Brace 24; M. Young 14.

R. Kennion, P. Bissell, P. Blayeney, D. Robb 22; C. Hughes 20.

P. Gray, S. Arris, J. Moffatt, J. Dugmore 13; S. James 15.

CLEDDAU 45

ST. ISSELL'S LADIES 33

Shirley Spiller's rink must have been wishing they had stayed at home. Six ends gone and they were 18 shots adrift. A fighting gritty display saw them get back to a six-shot defeat.

On the other rink, Amanda Lewis and her gang plugged away hoping for a bit of luck that never arrived.

Rink scores (St. Issell's Ladies first, Cleddau skips only):

L. Statters, I. Sampson, K. Blayeney, A. J. Lewis 15; C. Moore 21.

P. Thomas, V. Austin, M. Robb, S. Spiller 18; R. Webb 24.

CONGRATULATIONS

Well done to the Saundersfoot bowlers who took part in the county finals last Saturday.

Dave Roberts won the over 60s singles. Dave and George Cavell won the open pairs. John and Marion Evans won the mixed pairs, while Steve Poole, along with Myrddin Dennis, Mervyn Brace and Alan Brain won the rinks.

Everyone at the club I know was delighted when they heard the good news. Now all we would like is for you all to go to the Welsh finals and win them also.
