Richard Thomas, a Sixth Form student at The Greenhill School, attended a meeting of the Tenby Rotary Club and gave members an interesting account of his attendance at the Rotary Youth Leadership Award Camp (RYLA). The camp was over six challenging days, at the Dolygaer Outdoor Pursuits Centre in the Brecon Beacons and consisted of a number of activities, including mountain walking, caving, sailing and canoeing. Each participant had to lead a team for one of the events and ensure that the best team performance, rather than individual result, was achieved. Richard thanked the Rotary Club for sponsoring him and felt sure he had benefited from the course and that it was a very useful addition to his CV and university application forms. The Tenby Rotary Club intends to sponsor further students again at the camps arranged for August 2009 and would welcome applications from any 16 and 17-year-olds (all participants have to be under 18 on September 1, 2009). Anyone interested can telephone Bob Storey on (01834) 811254 or if a Greenhill School pupil, contact Mr. Julian Dessent, who is arranging interviews.

Richard Thomas is seen receiving his RYLA certificate from club president Stephen Williams.
