Sir,
On Sunday, November 24, Tenby Under 15s had to play on the Greenhill school pitch next to the junior school as the Clicketts was unplayable.
To my horror, the players and myself noticed dog excrement all over the pitch. Play was then held up for half-an-hour while we inspected the pitch in a line. Sixteen pieces of excrement were removed from the pitch!
As coach of the side, my responsibilities lie with the boys who are under my supervision.
The game should have been called off on the grounds of health and safety issues, but our opponents had travelled from the Llanelli area and they wanted the game to go ahead, as did our boys.
I therefore appeal to some irresponsible dog owners who allow their dogs to roam over the pitches to take heed of the signs which clearly state no fouling on the playing fields.
I can only come to the conclusion that the owners who allow their dogs to foul the pitches have no children or grandchildren who play sports for the schools or Tenby RFC.
From now on, if any of the junior section management or committee witnesses a dog fouling on the pitches, the police will be informed immediately and the owners will be prosecuted.
Chris Williams,
Coach Under 15s and
senior team manager,
Tenby RFC.
