The RNLI's Sea Safety Team are hosting two presentations on sea safety over the next week.

Is your lifejacket safely maintained?

On Monday, May 25, from 10 am - 3 pm, there will be a lifejacket clinic at Lydstep Haven - open to any local boater who would like to get their lifejackets checked.

Tenby's lifeboat sea safety officer Andrew Lowe explained: "This is the third such clinic held this year in Pembrokeshire and it's well worth coming along.

"A lifejacket has a monthly, three monthly and annual maintenance schedule but we find many boaters are unaware of the requirements.

"At previous clinics, from a total of 105 lifejackets seen, just 10 were found to be correctly serviced and equipped, and whilst the majority are found to be in need of just simple maintenance to ensure their correct operation, we have also found half-a-dozen or so that would have failed completely should they have been required for an emergency.

"Lydstep Haven have kindly agreed that anyone can visit our stand for this event - the entrance to the resort is easily found on the Tenby to Manorbier road, and you'll find us just outside the main reception area."

All you ever wanted to know about VHF radio

On Friday, May 29, 7.30 pm, at Tenby Sailing Club, there will be a presentation on the use of VHF radio at sea.

The presentation will be given by Keith John, a local RNLI sea safety adviser, who has recently retired from Milford Haven Coastguard.

A VHF radio (pictured) is the primary means of requesting assistance at sea and the RNLI recommends that everyone putting out to sea should carry one whether in a kayak, on a windsurfer, on a PWC, in a dinghy or any type of boat.

The presentation will include information on the different kinds of radio, information for those who want to upgrade to the latest DSC radios and information on obtaining the appropriate licence.

Keith has a wealth of experience in radio communications and will also be happy to answer any questions you have about the use of VHF and DSC.

Again, by kind agreement of the club, this presentation is open to everyone.
