Tenby RNLI fundraising committee managed to raise over £660 during the Bank Holiday weekend for the RNLI Mayday appeal. This appeal was taking place all over Britain, with yellow wellies as its symbol. Many celebrities supported it nationwide and the cast of the West End musical ‘Stomp’ even danced in yellow wellies in support.

In Tenby we organised a Yellow Welly shop window hunt, and a street collection. Thanks must go to all the shops who so willingly hid a yellow welly in their window display, 20 in all.

The hunt proved a great success, with the winners being drawn from all the correct answer sheets by holidaymakers visiting the Boat House. These were: aged seven and over, Caitlyn Francis, and under seven, Ben Craig . Both received vouchers to spend in the Tenby RNLI shop, and all participants received a yellow welly pin badge.

Particular thanks go to Katherine John, of Morris Brothers, for help in providing a base for the bucket collectors on Saturday, and for selling the entry sheets, along with Clarice’s Toy Shop and the RNLI shop.

Very special thanks must, of course, go to the bucket collectors, who this year managed to collect a record sum. They were: Doreen Mortimer, Liz Green, Althea Shaw, Vickie Chiffi, Barbara Pegg, Jayne Hughes, Jan Evans, Siriol Jenkins, Julia Dashfield, David and Janet Evans, Sue Broomhead, ,Jane Morris, Julie Jenkins, David Morgan, Shan Thomas and Nicole Evans.

The Mayday appeal has become an important part of the RNLI fund-raising year and we would like to thank everyone who supported this worthwhile cause over the weekend. This year, the appeal carries on until the end of the month with a raffle for a crew teddy bear in the RNLI shop, ending with a bumper cake stall at the Boat House on Saturday, May 27.

The next meeting of the Tenby RNLI fundraising committee will be the AGM, to which all are welcome. This will be held at The Boat House today (Friday, May 12) at 3 pm.
