Tenby Surf Life Saving Club will restart training on Wednesday, June 2, at 7 pm, and one of the lifesaving training instructors will be Chris Rigby who is one of the RNLI lifeguard supervisors.

Chris was an active member of the Tenby SLSC when he was a youngster and is delighted to be able to get involved with the club again.

"I really enjoyed my time in the club," he said, "and it'll be great to be able to give something back.

"I am sure several of the other guards will want to be involved as well."

The club evenings will focus on several aspects of lifesaving - serious training, which will prepare club members to qualify as beach lifeguards, general fitness, swimming and the use of craft - surf skis, rescue boards etc.

The club is also hoping to take part in lifesaving competitions which take place throughout the summer and are always very enjoyable.

Jules Rilstone, chairman of the club, is delighted with this development, and said: "It will be great to have Chris instructing, and as a professional guard, he will be right up to date and the club members will be expertly trained.

"Surf life saving is an all-round activity as the club members learn the most vital life-saving skills, keep fit, have fun and provide a service for society.

"In addition, the qualifications that the club members gain will qualify them to work for the RNLI lifeguards, and guards with local knowledge are indispensable."

Tenby Surf Life Saving Club is one of the three clubs that make up Surflink, and members of the surf life saving club are also automatically members of the Tenby Windsurfing Club and the Tenby Sea Rowing Club.

This means that members can participate in all three activities.

The surf life saving club has a large number of rescue and racing surf skis, and rescue and racing boards, all available for use by members when trained.

The windsurfing section has a number of club windsurfing boards for use by club members, and the rowing section has three Celtic longboats, and a racing twin scull boat.

For safety, Surflink also has a jet-ski rescue boat.

Anybody interested in joining any of the clubs is welcome to come down to the Surflink headquarters on Wednesday at 7 pm.
