RNLI Fun Run Walk 2011 entrants and sponsors have really reined in the funds for the RNLI, in spite of the rain at the event's 20th anniversary last month.

The amount raised has reached a staggering £4,100, which means that in 20 years, this event has raised approximately £92,000.

Entrants raising in excess of £100, the walk marquee team, and helpers were thanked by Guild members at a reception last week at the Old Kings Arms Hotel, Pembroke.

Mrs. Shirley Wheeler, hotel owner and vice president of the Guild, once again donated wine and soft drinks for the evening, while Guild members donated one of their irresistible buffets.

Chair, Daphne Bush, thanked guests for attending and for their dedication and support of the event.

Walk chair, Viv Kerrison, announced the amazing achievments of the fundraisers, absent and present.

RNLI walk stalwart supporters unable to attend were Mrs. Cynthia Field (a four-mile walker, and 'famed' locally for her 'RNLI Quiz'), Mr. Mike Blackborow (a four-mile walker), Mr. Keith Dickson (DJ), Mr. Kevin Bradley (former RSM at Castlemartin) and Mrs. Bradley, Lt. Col (ret'd) Johnnie Rogers and Mrs. Nicky Rogers, RSM James, WO2 (QMSI) S. Meaker MBE, and Ceris Hewlings, chief reporter of the Tenby, Pembroke and Pembroke Dock Observer, whose editorials of the event have been outstanding.

The Army was represented by camp commandant, Major Barry Inglis MBE.

Legendary supporters in attendance were Mr. and Mrs. Cardy, well known in Pembroke Dock with their Sea Cubs, who for 18 years have encouraged each group to collect sponsorship and this year raised in excess of £250.

Mr. Franz Klau, who has never missed an event in 20 years, raising phenomenal amounts, was also in attendance.

Franz runs the eight-mile route sponsored by relatives, friends and work colleagues. He receives priceless support of his sponsorship by his employer, Murco.

In fact, everyone photographed has shown lengthy and loyal support for this event and the RNLI, together with Guild members.

Very special thanks go to everyone who contributed to the raising of this fantastic sum on behalf of the RNLI and to the British Army at Castlemartin, the Guild's 'major' organisers for permitting the use of their world famous Army training range as the annual venue, boosting the funds each year for this vital free 24/7 rescue service in the UK and Northern Ireland.

See you all again next year, when hopefully it's not going to rain!
