Pembrokeshire County Council may have a rethink on plans to extinguish street lighting in an area of Tenby after midnight as it attracts late-night revellers.

Members of Tenby Town Council had informed the county council of their concerns about certain streets within the town walls that the authority had earmarked to be part of their latest switch-off initiative, as councillors considered them to be busy areas, especially during the holiday season.

The county council are currently finalising their consultation on a proposal that non-core street lighting installations across the county will be extinguished between midnight and 5.30 am, a policy which is being introduced in a bid to cut down carbon emissions.

One area of concern for town councillors was Lower Frog Street, which they believed should be considered a core area that required lighting after midnight as it contained two chip shops, a restaurant, kebab shop, The Crown Inn and also the Legion Club.

However, correspondence from the county council's head of highways and construction, Mr Darren Thomas, which was brought before members of the town council at their meeting on Tuesday night, said that the authority planned to re-examine the location in Tenby and the criteria for the area in question and would forward the revised plans to councillors in due course.
