Those involved in last weekend’s Remembrance services in Tenby have been praised by the town’s Mayor.
Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council, Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, spoke of the occasion, and told her colleagues that once again, the Remembrance Sunday service at the town’s War Memorial was very well attended, and seemed to be getting better and better each year.
Clr. Trevor Hallett agreed and said that the church service was also ‘lovely’, praising the school children involved, too, whilst his colleague, Clr. Mrs. Tish Rossiter, said it was once again an ‘honour and a privilege’ to attend the services.
Discussions are underway for plans to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I next year, with the ‘Battle’s End’ tribute planned nationwide.
Proposals have been outlined in Tenby to mark the occasion, including a project to add a list of names that were on the Role of Honour in St. Mary’s Church to the War Memorial, and also a Gala Concert featuring Tenby Male Choir, to raise funds for the Poppy Appeal.
Speaking of Sunday’s Remembrance services in Tenby, John Thomas-Ferrand, Deputy Lieutenant for Dyfed (acting on behalf of the Lord Lieutenant for Dyfed, Miss Sara Edwards), said that a total of 50 wreaths were laid at the War Memorial by various local organisations, schools, clubs and societies and well in excess of 200 people attended.
“This was the ninth occasion that I have done this and, as ever, it was well organised by the local branch of the British Legion, Tenby Town Council, the local clergy and well supported by other organisations.
“The number of children and young people involved has grown successively in recent years which is so important and it is good to see so many family members involved,” he added.
