A slightly increased entry of 68 calves saw several farmers around the sale ring looking for rearing calves, which resulted in a good demand throughout.  Top prices for bull and heifer calves were both Aberdeen Angus crosses entered by D. Phillips, Deers Park Farm, Laugharne, selling at £145 and £120, respectively. Friesian bulls sold to a top price of £90. Other calf prices topping £100 were entered by Messrs. Evans, Waterholmes Farm, Llawhaden; Davies, Barre Farm, Lampeter Velfrey; Hartt, Lanes End Farm, Cresselly; Worthing & Partners, Maencochyrwyn, Login; Williams, Henry's Mote Farm, Tufton; Brown, Lower Llantydwell, Tavernspite; Morris, Lower Coxhill, Narberth; and Llewellyn, Cotland Farm, Llawhaden Increased entries were forward in all the sheep sections, with a new buyer present ensuring a brisk demand. An entry of 87 new season's lambs sold to an overall average of 163.26p/kg with a top price of 188.2p/kg from Thomas, Bryngwenllian, Whitland. Top price per head was £65.50 for 40 kilo lambs presented by Harries, Garregwen, Clydey. Some 317 approved hoggetts and sheep sold to an overall of 124.69p/kg with a top price of 132p/kg for 41.5 kilo hoggetts from Bushell, St. Kennox Farm, Llawhaden, who achieved a top price per head of £57 for 52.5 kilo hoggetts. Producers are again reminded that many of the abattoirs now insist that the hoggetts be belly shorn.  The largest entry for many months of cull ewes and rams -488 - sold to an improved trade with a top price of £68.50 for some Charollais ewes from D. Morris, Yr Ostrey, St. Clears -heavy ewes averaged £45, with lighter types levelling just short of £26, reflecting the improvement in demand. Cull rams made up to £57 from E .Davies, Bron-y-Gaer, Bancyfelin, and averaged £43.
