There was a real buzz in Class Four of Golden Grove School recently when a letter from Her Majesty The Queen wished them all the very best for the show 'Wolf Tales' which they were promoting at the school.

In January this year, the pupils, through the local Communities First team, engaged with Night Out - an Arts Council For Wales led project.

Taking in the whole range of jobs done by show promoters, the pupils, under the tutelage of Cheryl Beer, set about arranging the publicity, pricing, front of house, seating plans and VIP lists and more for the event.

Having written to The Queen, the pupils were thrilled to get a response from her.

She apologised saying that she was unable to attend, but nevertheless was sending her best wishes for the show.

And what a show it was! Theatre company Pickled Image of Bristol staged a splendid one-hour show of Wolf Tales.

The wolf, from the Little Red Riding Hood, Three Little Pigs and Seven Young Goats stories, came 'backstage' to find a gathered audience who had 'crept in' during his front stage performance!

He regaled the assembled pupils and guests (including Mayor of Pembroke, Keith Nicholas) with his take on his various exploits in the stories.

With life-size puppets and other ingenious pieces of equipment, he had them laughing, cheering and joining in with the well-paced and hilarious stories, which had more than a little bias to his good nature!

The show was one of the best performances ever to have taken place at the school and was unanimously applauded at the end.

In thanking the pupils and handing out certificates of achievement, Mayor Keith Nicholas praised Pickled Image, the pupils, Night Out, The Arts Council for Wales and Communities First for staging the event.

He was particularly impressed to see the way in which the pupils undertook their roles.

As a part of the training for promoting the event, pupils had attended at The Torch Theatre for a back and understage tour.

All areas of The Torch were explored, with the head technician Andy giving the pupils a rounded explanation of everything that goes in to making a show.

The school would like to thank all those involved in the event and also give thanks to the Co-operative for kindly donating prizes for the raffle.
