PROUD dad Peter Russ will run for a cause very close to his heart on Sunday, October 6. The owner of Hampton Court Caravan Park in Templeton is among over 100 people to have signed up for the first Milford Haven Ty Hafan 5K Run.

Peter has more reason than most for taking part – his son Connor, is one of the children being cared for at the hospice. Connor, aged five, has a rare chromosomal abnormality, which means that he has epilepsy and suffers symptoms similar to cerebral palsy. He is confined to a wheelchair, is still in nappies and cannot feed himself - he needs 24-hour supervision - and sleeps in the same bedroom as Peter and his wife Sharon, because they never know when he might have a seizure.

"We were quite apprehensive about coming to Ty Hafan, as we were not quite sure what to expect, but we have been overwhelmed by how welcome we were made from the moment we arrived."

Peter and Sharon will be able to visit the hospice as often as they feel the need to with no financial cost to themselves. The £1.3 million annual running costs of Ty Hafan are paid from generous public donations and the proceeds of fund-raising events such as the Milford Haven 5K Run.

The run commences at 11 am in Milford Haven Marina, following a two circuit route from the heli pad to the finish at Martha's Vineyard. Entry forms are available from the Ty Hafan appeal office on 01446 739993 and the registration fee is £6. Late registration will be available on the morning before 10.30 am.

So why not join Peter and help him to support the many other children who desperately need Ty Hafan.
