Saundersfoot's cricketers failed on Saturday to grasp promotion when they were outclassed by a young St. Ishmaels side.

Having won the toss, Saundersfoot asked St. Ishmaels to bat and had a early success, with Danny James dismissing Andrew Williams in the sixth over for 15.

Tish scored freely, however, and reached 79 for 3 by the 20th over. The Saundersfoot bowlers struggled to find success and the St. Ishmaels innings closed on 178 for 7, with Danny James taking 4-51 and the most economical bowler being Chris Parker with 2-26 from his 12 overs.

Needing only a draw, a good start was required from Saundersfoot. However, openers Barry Phillips and Steve Cook both fell with the score on 10.

Saundersfoot never recovered from this bad start, with the rest of the batsmen finding the spin bowling of S. Williams difficult to handle and were finally dismissed for 62, with only Nick Joseph and Chris Parker reaching double figure, and Williams finishing with figures of 5-17.

Saundersfoot's promotion hopes now hang by a fine thread. They need St. Ishmaels to draw or lose their final game, while gaining maximum points themselves. The fat lady may not be singing, but she is surely exercising her vocal cords.

Saundersfoot Seconds rocked back to form and second place in division six with a high scoring victory against Llangwm III. Openers. Anthony Griffiths (44) and Jason Llama (42) enjoyed themselves and added 88 for the first wicket in only 17 overs. Richard Haines (20), Joe Duffy (42) and Dan Brace (22) all scored freely and Saundersfoot amassed 220 in their 40 overs.

Llangwm, in reply, fell 19 runs short in a valiant effort for victory, their main run-getter being D. Chesmer with 65, and no fewer than seven batsmen got into double figures.

However, they couldn't cope with the bowling of Joe Duffy and the young Saundersfoot all-rounder capped a man-of-the-match performance by taking six of the Llangwm wickets to fall.
