ARRIVING in Tenby tomorrow (Saturday) is the work of 20 members of the South Wales Potters Association for an extended stay at Art Matters Gallery in the town's South Parade.
The association has a membership of professional potters from across South Wales and South West England who exhibit widely both in group exhibitions and on their own, but are rarely seen as far west as Pembrokeshire. Their most recent exhibition was at the Albany Gallery in Cardiff.
"This exhibition brings a whole new dimension to our gallery," said Margaret Welsh, of Art Matters.
"We have become well known for our extensive collection of paintings, but have only four potters exhibiting regularly with us up to now."
Local potter, Sheila Hickey, of Milford Haven, is showing some of her fine porcelain work in a show that encompasses a wide range of approaches from domestic pieces through a range of decorative items to larger scale figures, abstract sculptures and wall hung reliefs all in a wide range of glazes and finishes.
To complement the ceramic work, the gallery is also showing the paintings of artists whose work has not been shown at Art Matters before, including Mike Absalom, of County Mayo in Ireland, Penelope Timmins, who is also a dairy farmer in Shropshire, Carol Jury, of Aberporth, charcoal drawings by Tenby sculptor Richard James, and some fine textural marine paintings by Joy Rasmussen, of Jeffreyston.
Readers are invited to 'Meet the Makers', members of the South Wales Potters, who will be available to talk about their work tomorrow (Saturday) at Art Matters, from 2 to 4.30 pm.
The exhibition continues for six weeks until August 6, Monday to Saturday, from 10 am to 5 pm. For further details, please telephone (01834) 843375.
