Two police officers have been praised for wading into the sea and saving a man from drowning.
As reported in last week's issue, at about 3.50 am on January 14, a 999 call was received saying that there was a man in the sea at North Beach, Tenby. Officers were sent to the scene and they could hear a man out in the darkness of the sea.
Using torches, they were able to see the man about 100 metres into the water which was up to his chest. The man was unresponsive to the police officers, so PC Sharon Gibby and PC Paul Boorman entered the sea and made their way to the man.
The officers were able to catch up with him and bring him back safely to the shore.
The man was arrested under the mental health act. Now they have been praised by Section Inspector Les Clark.
"When I was told about this rescue, I felt very proud of the officers' actions, but to be honest I was not surprised. They are both individuals who would instinctively risk their own lives to save someone else and are excellent ambassadors for the police service."
