A 12-bedroom dementia unit looks likely to get the green light as a Pembrokeshire care home looks to extend its provision.

An application for Parc Y Llyn Nursing and Residential Home in Ambleston for a single-storey, contemporary design, extension which will provide a 12 en-suite bedroom dementia unit, activity room, sitting room and lounge/dining room.

Also included in the plans is an animal assisted therapy unit space with a report to planning committee adding it will all be connected to the existing care home by a corridor link.

The specialist care provided will be available for Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire residents with the report adding that the only registered dementia nursing home in north Pembrokeshire closed, leaving a gap in service provision of 37 beds.

It will be built at the back of the existing care home and be screened by mature vegetation and trees, with the nearby scheduled ancient monument unaffected, adds the report.

The application is recommended for approval by council planners and Pembrokeshire county councillors will discuss the plans on Tuesday, July 23.
