Local councillors met with a representative from the Pembrokeshire Housing Association this week to discuss the new housing scheme in Tenby’s South Parade.
The development at the former Delphi properties, constructed by Pembrokeshire Housing Association in partnership with WRW Ltd, consists of 12 flats, six one-bedroom and six two-bedroom, with Elin Brock from the Housing Association telling councillors at their meeting on Tuesday night, that the local letting scheme, giving first priority to Tenby North and South people, had proved very popular, with over 90 people bidding.
“Another positive was that we helped four local tenants downsize to the new one bedroom properties,” explained Ms Brock, who said that, despite a number of deadline setbacks, she hoped that the contractor would be able to hand over the keys to new tenants at the end of next week.
The properties have been built to Lifetime Homes Requirements, which means that they will meet the needs of a wide range of households, including families with pushchairs, as well as some wheelchair users.
Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown said that the scheme had been “great news” for Tenby and that its mission to help some locals downsize had succeeded.
Clr. Mike Evans agreed that the scheme had been a success, and that the only slight blip was that the notification period had been quite short, and advertised only over the summer when lots of young, hard-working families may not have picked up on the opportunity.
He also said that he was surprised that Pembrokeshire County Council had not contacted the Housing Association yet over the Brynhir development, which he stated should have a high social housing allocation and an element of affordable housing on site.
“It’s important that the people of Tenby benefit from the Brynhir scheme,” commented Clr. Evans.
Ms Brock confirmed that nothing had been put forward to the Housing Association’s board of management as of yet on the Brynhir scheme, but she would keep members of the town council informed on any other potential developments in Tenby.
The Mayor, Clr. Laurence Blackhall, said it was important that a sense of progress was being made and that there was an ongoing commitment from the Housing Association to work with the town council as an active partner on future developments in the town.
