WELL maybe not pistols at dawn so much as a clash of guitars at dusk, as local gig promoters Sickofantic continue to celebrate their fifth birthday.

On Friday, September 30, at the Queen's Hall, Narberth, there will be a top notch face-off, as two of West Wales' premier bands go head-to-head to decide who rocks the most.

The Fred Herring Band, veterans of the local gig circuit, thought they had the area sewn up until those young pretenders Love Rocket swaggered onto the scene and threw down the gauntlet. In this boxing-style event, the two bands will share the stage as they perform against each other over six rounds. "We have a few scores to settle with those old men of rock," said bassist Luke, of Love Rocket. "It's time for young supremacy." Front man Charlie, of reggae ska blues merchants, The Fred Herring Band, retorts: "Those rock ruffians can rant and rave as much as they like. They can have us against the ropes for five rounds, but we'll come back out and floor them in the sixth!" This musical contest promises to be a battle to end all battles and as no prisoners will be taken, it should be a great spectator sport.

So come along and lend your support to your favourite band. Doors open at 8 pm, tickets are £6 and are available from the Queen's Hall on 01834 861212.
