Sir,

I was interested to read the article on September 21 regarding the origins of the name 'Penniless Cove'. This name had always intrigued me whenever I passed the sign and I always intended looking up its origins - but never had.

However, for someone to think that this old name should be changed to the bland 'Harbour Hill' is very disappointing.

These old historic names should be cherished for their quirkiness and celebrated by having the meanings also displayed along with the sign - as an historic town, Tenby should be celebrating all these old and unusual names.

And to ask 'who would want to live somewhere called Penniless Cove?' seems a bit short-sighted. People live in the 'Plague Cottages' at Eyam in Derbyshire ,with plaques outside detailing the names of those who died in the epidemic of 1665, so to be called 'Penniless Cove' is tame in comparison.
