The Rotary Club of Tenby was very pleased to receive two donations this week towards the Rotary tsunami relief effort in Asia. Katie Picton, supervisor at the 'Puddleducks Nursery' was very pleased to present £20 to club president Steve Kelly. The money was raised at a 'Green Day' at the nursery. President Steve was also delighted to receive the magnificent sum of £351 from Tenby VC Infants School headteacher, Mrs. Gill John. Mrs. John said that the money was raised by the children and staff who held a non-uniform day, and sold cakes and squash at the school. Rotary Club president, Steve Kelly, said that Rotary was able to get aid quickly to where it was most needed by working through its volunteer Service Club network at the grassroots level. Rotary has a total of 3,020 clubs and 104,600 Rotarians in countries directly affected by the disaster. In total from Rotary in Great Britain alone 3,168 aquaboxes, 1,159 shelter boxes and 75 emergency boxes have been shipped in the last two weeks in direct response to requests from Rotary Clubs in India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and the Maldives. A further 1,000 shelter boxes are to be delivered this week and a further 4,000 aquaboxes are on order. Rotary in South Wales will also be working in the medium and longer term through direct links with Rotarians in Sri Lanka, as reported in last week's Tenby Observer. If you would like to contribute to the Rotary aid effort, please contact the club secretary, Rotarian Jim Fleming, on (01834) 845056, or write to the club at their headquarters, The Royal Lion Hotel, High Street, Tenby.
