Pembrokeshire Association of Community Transport Organisations (PACTO) is celebrating national recognition after being shortlisted in two categories at the prestigious Social Business Wales Awards 2026.

PACTO has been named a finalist in:

- Social Enterprise Innovation Award

- Community-Based Social Enterprise Award

The Social Business Wales Awards celebrate organisations across Wales that are using business approaches to deliver positive social impact within their communities.

The dual shortlist recognition follows a transformational three-year period for PACTO and the wider Community Transport sector in Pembrokeshire.

Through investment in accessible vehicles, volunteer development, digital innovation, partnership working and new service models, PACTO has helped strengthen access to healthcare, community services and opportunities for people across the county.

Between October 2023 and March 2026, Community Transport services supported through PACTO delivered 123,037 passenger journeys, including 14,759 healthcare journeys, helping people access hospital appointments, GP services and essential care across west Wales.

During the same period, 4,438 people accessed Community Transport services for the first time, while independent analysis estimated that the activity generated £4.6 million in social value.

PACTO's shortlisting in the Innovation category recognises the development of initiatives such as the Transport Connector Service, providing a single point of contact for transport advice and referrals, and the Wheelchair Passenger Assessment and Passport Scheme, helping improve accessibility and safety for people with mobility needs across Pembrokeshire.

The Community-Based Social Enterprise nomination recognises PACTO's long-standing role in supporting local communities, volunteers and Community Transport organisations throughout Pembrokeshire, helping tackle rural isolation and improve access to vital services.

Over the past three years, more than 137 volunteers have contributed over 22,000 hours supporting local people and strengthening community connections across the county.

It enables people to access healthcare, maintain independence, stay connected to their communities and enjoy a better quality of life. We are incredibly proud to represent Pembrokeshire and to showcase the positive impact that community-led transport solutions can have on people's lives."

PACTO was established in 2004 and operates as a charitable social enterprise, supporting Community Transport across Pembrokeshire and helping ensure that people are not excluded from healthcare, employment, education, shopping, volunteering or community life because of a lack of accessible transport.

The winners of the Social Business Wales Awards will be announced at an awards ceremony in Pontypridd on 7 October 2026
