ON Monday, September 7, Esteam installed the first sections of their wheelchair accessible paths at The Warren.

The paths are part of around £17,000 worth of improvements aimed at making the site fully inclusive, which has been part funded by an Enhancing Pembrokeshire grant awarded to the CIC, covering approximately £13,500 of the cost.

This local not-for-profit environmental sustainability team based in the Pembroke area works with people with learning disabilities and offers accredited training in practical conservation in West Wales.

The team’s home base, The Warren, is situated in the village of Warren, near Castlemartin.

To make the gardens, woodlands, and orchards that participants have built at The Warren accessible to everyone - including those with mobility challenges - participants and volunteers laid wheelchair-accessible pathways across the site using specialised grass protection matrices.

Esteam operate a variety of diverse environmental projects across West Wales. They offer to gain first hand experience and training in environment work and in partnership with groups in the community. They offer a supportive learning environment where courses are tailored to meet the needs and the interests of the individual.

The group engages in off-site and community conservation tasks, such as local beach cleaning to remove litter and rubbish left by visitors, as well as hosting annual open days, craft events, and community activities on their site in Warren.

Esteam expressed thanks to Pembrokeshire County Council for the Enhancing Pembrokeshire grant.

The grant welcomes enquiries from constituted community groups, registered charities, social enterprises, and Town or Community Councils.
