President Mrs. Carola Ramsden opened the very well attended annual general meeting of Pembroke RNLI Guild on June 4. It was a memorable occasion for her, as she had decided to retire after 30 years service to the guild. The election of new officers took place. Mrs. Rosie Allen-Mirehouse now becomes president of the guild and Mrs. Norma Surtees, treasurer, was made a vice-president. RNLI area fund-raising manager, Bev Rosser-Smith, presented special awards to four great fund-raisers for their long and continuing work. Mr. Franz Klau has given 17 years, effortlessly, supporting his wife, souvenir secretary Kath and Mrs. Humber, her late mother, since 1976. RSM Kevin Bradley, of the British Army at Castlemartin, has played a significant role for 13 years at their annual fun run/walk at the army range, planning the routes and ensuring safety. Mrs. Jaqui Lintern, a member for 10 years, together with husband Tom Lintern, fund-raisers at Lawrenny Yacht Club constantly. In the closing of the meeting, Mrs. Ramsden thanked the Guild for their outstanding efforts during her long service. She had joined in 1966, took office in 1978, was awarded a Lifeboatman Statuette in 1989 and a Silver Badge in 1999. Mrs. Mary Monsen, a guild vice-president, has served all of these years with Mrs. Ramsden. After the presentation of badges, the new president gave Mrs. Ramsden a beautiful framed photograph of the Angle lifeboat from the crew, and Mrs. Joan Giles, the outgoing chairman, a Cercidphyllyum Japonica tree and a beautiful clematis, aptly named 'The President', on behalf of them all. The achievements of Mrs. Ramsden and the awardees were celebrated with drinks, compliments of Mrs. Shirley Wheeler, vice-president, Old Kings Arms Hotel, who has allowed her hotel for their meetings for many years, and a gorgeous buffet with compliments of 'the girls' of the guild. The new committee is: Mrs. Nicky Rogers - chairman; Mrs. Viv Kerrison and Daphne Bush - joint vice-chairmen; Mrs. Norman Surtees - treasurer; Mrs. Kath Klau - assistant treasurer; Kate Spencer - hon. minute secretary; Mrs. Una Birtwhistle - assistant minute secretary; Mrs. Tamsin Lewis - hon. secretary; Mrs. Viv Kerrison - assistant secretary; Mrs. Kath Klau - souvenir secretary; Mrs. Maggie Pegg - assistant souvenir secretary; Daphne Bush - hon. press secretary; Mrs. Maggie Pegg and Mrs. Margaret Byers - collecting box secretaries. The next meeting of the committee to discuss the rest of the year's events will take place on July 2.
