Originality is a byword of any work by Welsh composer Karl Jenkins and it is especially true of his Stabat Mater being performed by Cantorion Tyddewi (The St David’s Singers) in a Holy Week concert at Narberth.

Written in the 13th century, the text focuses on the sufferings of Mary at the crucifixion. Unlike earlier adaptations, Jenkins incorporates the language of its classical setting and it is sung not only in original Latin but, in parts, in Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek, as well as in English.

The performance by the choir, with soloist Glesni Edwards, is being given in Bethesda Baptist Church, Narberth, on March 23.
