It is hoped that a permit parking scheme at Greenhill Avenue car park will benefit users of Tenby’s library and Avenue Centre.
Pembrokeshire County Council recently put forward their review of off street parking provision in the area, and sent correspondence to Tenby Town Council regarding the Greenhill Avenue facility’s parking permit scheme which has been in operation since last summer.
The authority stated how the permit scheme had been introduced to prevent the facility being used as a ‘free car park for all’ by motorists not even visiting the premises that the car park served.
After enquiring how the scheme at the car park worked, councillors received a response from coordinator for Learning Pembrokeshire, Lynne Richards at their meeting on Tuesday night, explaining how premises users can park without a permit in one of the short-stay bays for 30 minutes, or collect a free permit from on of the four buildings that they are visiting for the duration of their stay.
“Since introducing the permit parking scheme, users of all facilities on site - Tenby Community Learning Centre, Tenby Library, Tenby Youth Service and the Avenue Centre - have indicated that the restricted parking has much improved the congestion situation and improved availability of parking for premises users,” she wrote.
Clr. Mike Evans welcomed the permit scheme telling his colleagues that it if it has improved the parking experience for those visiting and using such facilities as the library and learning centre, which were ‘key to the town’ then it was good news.
He also suggested that it was the first stage to a car parking charging system for residents living in the Greenhill Avenue area, and wished to know if PCC had conducted any consultations with those living on that street about a future permit scheme.
