PICTURED is Leigh Phillips, who recently spent a week on work experience at the Observer.

Seventeen-year-old Leigh, a lower sixth student at Pembroke School, spent the week shadowing reporters on various assignments and assisting the editorial department in the production of the 'paper.

Leigh, of Llanion, Pembroke Dock, has just completed his AS levels in media studies, drama and English.

In his spare time, Leigh works as a cashier for Tesco at Pembroke Dock.

He also plays football and is a member of the Tesco team and has also played and been captain of Pembroke Town.

Leigh also enjoys participating in theatre productions in school.

He took the part of Mr. Brownlow in their portrayal of 'Oliver' in 1999 and also starred, directed and wrote several scenes in 'Murder at Morose Place' which was performed as one of the school's annual house plays in October.

This year, Leigh, who won best supporting actor in 1999 for his role in a production of 'Seaside Trippers', is hoping to direct again.

Leigh also enjoys making home videos based around sport and comedy and is in the process of completing his movie, 'The Final Whistle', with several friends.

Leigh's mother, Jenny, works at Skelfayre, while his father, Lloyd, is an operations manager at Delta Catalytic.
