Pembrokeshire County Council have notified local councillors that they have no immediate plans to introduce a trade waste glass bottle scheme in Tenby. At their last meeting, town councillors discussed the possibility of such a recycling scheme to benefit the community's environment. However, a response from PCC cabinet member for environment and transportation, Clr. Brian Hall, which was brought before members at Tuesday night's meeting, stated that there were no plans in the pipeline for such a facility, due to difficulty with access. Clr. Hall pointed out in his letter that trade premises could continue to use the civic amenity and recycling sites at the Salterns. "I don't understand this response," commented Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown. "We're trying to help the county council on these environmental issues, not the other way round. I don't understand his perception of what we're trying to achieve. "We need a facility within the town; the Salterns is too far for some people to travel who have no transport," she added. Clr. Mrs. Kerri Durham suggested that maybe a private recycling company could be contacted, while Clr. Mike Evans felt that the matter was something that could be put on the agenda for a South East Area Liaison Meeting, chaired by PCC cabinet member for housing and regulatory business, Clr. David Simpson. Councillors agreed to contact Clr. Simpson over the issue.
