WELCOME BACK!

To all our students and staff, with high hopes that a good half-term break was had by all. This is a short half-term, with the Easter holidays beginning on Good Friday, March 29, until Friday, April 12.

DYDD GWYL DEWI -

ST. DAVID'S DAY

A number of events and activities have been organised throughout the school today (Friday) to celebrate the day of our patron saint, St. David (or Dewi Sant, as he is known in Welsh). Special assemblies have been conducted throughout the last week based on the life of St. David, whilst today, form and departmental competitions and quizzes have all been designed to make us think about the wonderful culture and history of Wales. These will all be judged today.

The canteen meals during both break and lunch will have a Welsh theme, the menus for which will all be bilingual, whilst the, no doubt, delicious food will be eaten to the sounds of Welsh music which will be played in the hall.

During break, the school's budding Jamie Olivers will take part in a competition to make the 'Best Welsh cakes' which will be judged by some very happy staff members, Mr. Noble amongst them no doubt!

We would also like to wish all our readers a happy St. David's Day: 'joiwch y dydd, a pob hwyl ar ddiwrnod Gwyl Dewi Sant i chi i gyd'!

CONFUSIONS

No sooner did it arrive, and it was gone again! It is hard to believe that after all the hard work in rehearsals, dress fittings, props making, scenery painting and months of eager and excited expectation, it is now over for another year.

Yes, Greenhill's annual musical extravaganza, this time 'Confusions' by Alan Ayckbourn, proved to be another big hit, with practically a full house on both Tuesday and Wednesday night. A feast for both the eyes and the ears, the students and staff put on a great show, with some quite exceptional performances by many budding young thespians.

The audience proved most appreciative, thus rewarding everybody who had anything to do with such an ambitious project like this for all their efforts. Now, we can only look forward to next year's performance. Roll on 2003!

DUKE OF EDINBURGH AWARD SCHEME

Expedition training for silver medal participants began on Wednesday. The training for the bronze medal candidates begins next Wednesday, so there is still time to get involved. If you would like to participate in this highly rewarding scheme, please contact Miss Bailey at the school.

ENVIRONMENT CLUB

Are you interested in protecting the tropical rainforests? Do you have any ideas on how to improve the school environment? If the answer to these questions is 'yes' then the Environment Club is for you. It will meet next Monday, in Room 804, during the lunch break. If you would like more information, please see Miss Pursglove or Miss Gray in the geography department.

GEOGRAPHY FIELD TRIP

A number of Year 12 geography students travelled to Swansea on Wednesday, and today (Friday), to investigate the development and regeneration of one of Wales's foremost cities. They will be investigating the economic impact of its development, whilst exploring its sustainability and long-term prospects, which is an essential component of the geography A-Level.

SCHOOL BANK

Our HSBC branch, run by Year 11 students, opens most Wednesdays in Room 604, and is the ideal way to encourage our students to start looking after the pennies, so that the pounds will look after themselves! For more information, please see Mr. Pattenden.

PARENTS' EVENING

Year 9 Parents' Evening takes place next Thursday, March 7, from 4-6.30pm. Please make your appointments in the usual way. We look forward to seeing you.

EVERYMAN MILLENNIUM BOOKS

The last batch of Everyman Millennium Books has arrived in the School Library and been added to stock. These comprise a complete set of 250 classic titles, which are regarded as essential stock for any library.

Everyman Publishers des-igned and funded this gift to school libraries to celebrate the new Millennium, and they have attracted a great deal of interest as their covers have been true to the very first Everyman books, very different to what we take for granted today.

SPORTS NEWS

Ireland netball tour: Despite the disappointment of having the netball games which had been arranged cancelled, because of the Irish half-term, our netball squad enjoyed their time in Ireland, making the best of the opportunity to spend time together, discussing tactics and admiring the Irish hospitality and scenery!

Hockey: Yesterday, our Years 8, 9 and 10 hockey teams all played away to Carmarthen. Reports to follow soon.

Rugby: Our Years 7, 9 and 10 rugby teams played at home against Fishguard yesterday. Again, reports to follow soon.
