The annual general meeting of the Narberth and District Probus Club took place on October 26 at the Nantyffin Motel, Llandissilio. The retiring president, Geoff Evans, thanked the officers and members of the club for their unfailing goodwill and support during his term of office, which he had enjoyed tremendously. He then called upon John Mathias, the club secretary, whom he said had been a tower of strength, to give his report. Addressing the members, John reminded them that his report had been printed and circulated in advance and asked for comments. None being addressed, John went on to add that Ludlow Probus would send a speaker in May and an invitation had been received for the Ludlow Ladies Lunch in Spring 2007. John Mathias asked if there were any objections to the rule changes set forth in the earlier letter. There being none, the president called upon the treasurer to give his report. The balance sheet having been previously circulated, the treasurer Derrick Charles asked for comments. There being none, the treasurer pointed out that there had been an excellent response to the monthly raffle since the introduction of three prizes and that the club had a healthy balance sheet, so much so that they would be able to send a contribution to the Paul Sartori charity. The annual subscription would remain at £5. The election of officers was straightforward due to the secretary's letter being sent out earlier requesting nominations with a closing date. Retiring president Geoff Evans handed over the chain of office to John Gibbin, wishing him a happy year at the helm, to which the new president replied that he looked forward to the challenge, with the hope that he would be seen to carry out his duties as well as Geoff had done. Thanking the members for their confidence and support, he presented a past president's tie and badge to Geoff and called upon Evan Davies, the new vice-president, to take his previous position whilst investing him with his badge of office. All the officers were re-elected as follows: secretary - John Mathias; treasurer - Derrick Charles; assistant secretary - John Wretham; press secretary - Ken Kendall; co-opted members - Stan Pitts and Stan Phillips. The meeting closed with the secretary's request for an early return of the Christmas Lunch requests and the new president's reminder that the speaker for November would be Richard Thomas MRCVS.
