Narberth has a new Mayor after Clr. Henry Langen was unanimously voted into office at Tuesday night's annual general meeting of the town council.

Clr. Langen takes over from Clr. Mrs. Sue Rees, who handed over the Mayoral robes and chain of office after completing her second term as the town's First Citizen.

"I'd like to thank my fellow councillors and everyone who made it possible for me to stand for a second term, especially my husband John, without whose support I couldn't have achieved anything," said Clr. Mrs. Rees.

"I sincerely wish Henry great joy in the year to come and am sure he will not let anyone down," she added.

It will be the first time Clr. Langen has stood as Mayor, having been elected on to the council four years ago.

Clr. Langen, who has lived in the town's Church Street all his life, is treasurer and a trustee of the Queen's Hall and also a trustee of Narberth Museum.

He is also planning monitor for Pembrokeshire Access Group at County Hall, as well as vice-chairman of Narberth Civic Week and chairman of the Friends of Narberth Churchyard.

"Thank you for electing me as Mayor of Narberth," said Clr. Langen after taking office. "I feel my first duty is to congratulate everyone here following the election results, and especially Clr. Wynne Evans, who will represent us on the county council."

Clr. David Norcross, meanwhile, was also unanimously voted in as Deputy Mayor.
