HND Design students at Pembrokeshire College designed a logo for the Energy Sector Workforce Development Group as part of their course and two of them won industry standard computer equipment - an iMac laptop and an A3 colour printer - that will help them in their careers. Dragon LNG, an enthusiastic supporter of the Energy Sector Workforce Development Group whose objective is to help raise the skills levels in Pembrokeshire, sponsored the two prizes. "The Group needed a logo which we wanted to source locally," said Dragon LNG office manager, Sarah Phillips, "so we thought who better to ask than the HND Design students at Pembrokeshire College. "We invited them to enter a competition, the response was excellent and the quality of the entries was so high that the judges had to deliberate for some time. "We were all thrilled to see at first hand the design talent we have in our county," added Sarah. Both of the winners are in their final second year of the University of Glamorgan validated HND course and will probably top-up their qualification to a BA. Winner Leo Zoghaib has his heart set on a place with the newly-established Cardiff School of Creative and Cultural Industries and is busy preparing his portfolio of work ready for an interview at the new University of Glamorgan campus - the Atrium. "The HND has a very strong emphasis on preparing students to either start their careers in industry or enter the third year of a degree," commented their tutor, Phil Ratcliff. Both students thought the experience of taking part in the competition extremely valuable as it gave them a taste of what it's like working in industry. "Meeting the deadlines and presenting my work to the client was a good experience," said winner Leo, "as well as winning the iMac which I will use for future college work and when I work in industry."
