AGENCIES including local emergency services recently gathered at South Hook LNG Terminal, near Milford Haven, to reflect on delivery of Crucial Crew - Pembrokeshire’s most important safety event for local youngsters.

The 32nd Crucial Crew initiative held its two-week programme before Christmas, welcoming over 1,200 children from 39 Schools to Scolton Manor. The event is organised by Pembrokeshire County Council’s Road Safety Team with the financial support of South Hook LNG Terminal.

Agencies and representatives of Scolton Manor met recently to ensuring that the annual event continues to deliver timely and relevant advice to year 10 pupils. They gathered at South Hook recently, to review the ongoing success of the event, evaluating teacher feedback and considering options for future enhancement.

The Agencies and Organisations delivering Crucial Crew are Pembrokeshire County Council’s Road Safety and School Transport departments, National Grid, Network Rail, Welsh Ambulance Service, Dyfed Powys Police, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, John Burns Foundation, HM Coastguard and the RNLI.

Delivering safety advice across a range of everyday situations, the event brings together emergency services, agencies and organisations that give children life-long skills. From water, fire, road and rail safety to electrical hazards, school bus evacuation, internet and dog safety, children are guided through a series of scenarios aimed at raising their safety understanding.

Over 40,000 Pembrokeshire schoolchildren have benefited from valuable, interactive safety workshops that have run every year since 1993. Pembrokeshire’s Crucial Crew is the longest running in Wales and continues to be a key event for children in their last year of Primary School.
