Tavernspite School is celebrating the opening of a new chapter in the school's history. The Early Years Unit for reception and nursery children has almost doubled in size with the building of a spacious new garden room. The extension to the old classroom features a built-in sandpit, kitchen area and large windows overlooking the nature garden. It has also got its own secure outdoor area so the forty-four children aged between three and five can safely play on ride-ons and run about. "This fantastic new room means that children of different ages now have their own space to learn and play," said class teacher Anne Stirling. Wednesday's grand opening by Pat Roblin, former Early Years advisor to Pembrokeshire County Council,  was celebrated with a party for the children and a tour of the new room for parents. "Our Early Years Unit is thriving and this extra space enables us to give children a wonderful environment for their first years at school," added headteacher Brian Jones.
