A multi-agency maritime exercise took place in Tenby to maintain preparedness in an ‘emergency event’ - with the mock rescue centering on a person stuck on the cliffs below The Paragon, with another one missing.
The exercise, which was planned in collaboration with HM Coastguard, Dyfed-Powys Police, Mid and West Wales Fire Service, and WAST, was to maintain preparedness in an emergency event.
It took place on the evening of Monday, February 3 between 5.30 and 7pm, above the South Beach.
Pembrokeshire County Council warned that there would be an increase in vehicles and personnel from the emergency services during the exercise, highlighting to the community that there was ‘no cause for concern’.
Tenby RNLI’s lifeboat crew were originally also going to take part in the exercise, but the weather conditions scuppered their involvement on the evening.
A spokesperson for Tenby RNLI said: “On the evening of 2nd February, we went to the Paragon in Tenby, to watch a huge multi-agency exercise centering on a person stuck on the cliffs below, with another one missing.
“Having originally been due to take part, but because of the strong winds and swell on the rocks below, we were forced to spectate as Welsh Ambulance, Tenby Fire, Dyfed-Powys Police and HM Coastguard personnel were put through their paces in this realistic training scenario,” they continued.

“It was great for us to see up close, the skills that each of these different teams possess, as we’d normally only see from a distance, being stuck out on the sea.
“Scenarios like these, held in a controlled environment, are really beneficial, as they allow all teams to see and get to know each other’s skillset so that when we have to do it for real, we act as one big team for the benefit of the casualty,” they added.
