A South Pembrokeshire singer has been hitting the high notes after reaching the finals of a national music competition. Sixteen-year-old Cherie Morgan (pictured) from Summerhill will be singing at the regional finals of Live and Unsigned 2008 for under 18s later this month. Cherie has previously battled through rounds of auditions and a semi-final live show to reach the regional final competition. Now she is one impressive performance away from making it to the grand national final - to be held in London - and achieving her dream of being crowned the UK's best 'Live and Unsigned' under 18 act of 2008. 'Live and Unsigned' is a national music competition for unsigned bands and singers to compete live. It stands as the biggest music talent search in the UK outside a certain ITV show. The difference with 'Live and Unsigned' is that the acts taking part are encouraged to do their own thing - be individual, original, perform their own genre and style live. Chris Grayston, events director of 'Live and Unsigned' said: "This cannot be compared to any other talent searches as the acts talent is the show. We are interested in discovering and exposing talent at its best; live! It is as simple as we say 'Get Live', get signed." Cherie. a pupil at Greenhill School, Tenby, is one contestant who has caught their eye. If successful, Cherie will have a shot at winning the under 18 prize, recording her own complete album, working with vocal coaches in recording studios and recording a track written by Lemar and Mark Hill (producer of Craig David). If Cherie continues with her success, she could be crowned the UK's best under 18 Live and Unsigned act in front of a capacity crowd, including many professionals from within the music industry, at Fairfield Halls, London, on June 28. The grand final will attract radio and press attention and with the 2007 competition boasting ITV coverage, 2008 plans to see Sky Television film the regional and grand final, programmed to be broadcast with a weekly peak time show. Next for Cherie however is competing amongst other talented hopefuls for that most-sought after place in the grand final at the regional final show to be held at St. George's, Bristol, on April 20.
