The West Wales Autograss League is proudly hosting the Ladies and Junior National Autograss Championships at Lamphey on the weekend of September 1 and 2. The championships are returning to West Wales after a gap of 19 years. Indeed many of the competitors taking part were not even born when the event was last held here. Around 400 competitors have entered from all the club/leagues in NASA - (National Autograss Sport Association) and two action-packed days of motorsport are anticipated on the fast track. There are 10 ladies classes and two juniors, with many entries from the home league. Double national title holder Michaela Bevans will be competing in classes one and seven, along with Hannah Thomas in class 4, national champion in 2005. Other entries include Bethan Vaughan, Helen Corbett and Dana Rogers in class one, Joanna Moss in her new class five mini and Laura Powell in class six, who is on good form this year. Caroline Jones will be joining Michaela in class seven, along with Kath Brown, who will also be very competitive in class 10. In class nine, the Pembroke Autograss driver Heather Evans will be competing. Moving on to the junior section, the host club has a very strong entry. In the junior saloons, flying the flag will be Dalton Thomas, who recently finished second in round four of the British Autograss series. Joining him will be Ashley Hutchings, the West Midland champion, Christopher Davies, Alice Bevans, Ryan Smith, Mark Lewis and Mathew Fleetwood. In the junior specials, the Pembroke Autograss Club will be represented by Aled Jones, Tomas Rees, Thomas Powell and Dexter Thomas, all of whom have been achieving some excellent results. The main sponsor of the event is Oval Insurance Broking - insurance brokers to the National Autograss Sports Association - and the venue is the PAC racetrack on the B4584 Pembroke to Tenby road, just outside the village of Lamphey. It is the West Wales Autograss League's intention to have these championships on a par with the men's. The field opens on Thursday, August 30, at 12 noon, with all amenities on site. The ladies and junior drivers will put on fast and exciting racing, so why not go along and support these championships and have a great weekend of autograss racing.
