It is fairly safe to say that for most of us we are living through unprecedented times - with that in mind Tenby Museum and Art Gallery Curator Mark Lewis has launched a project via the museum’s Facebook site, to help people create a snapshot of history from your own home and perspective.
“We are living through a period of time that is being recorded by the media and on social media platforms but often the personal story is being overlooked,” said Mark.
“Although this is likely to be a time we would care not to remember too well, it is history in the making.
“As a museum we have an obligation to ethically record this time and we are asking for everyone’s help with this.”
The ‘Museum of Memories’ project has asked for people to make a personal record of these times for the future.
“Its not just something for kids, it is for everyone and we are asking people to stay safe and go no further than their gardens, but within these confines, we are suggesting maybe they could write a letter to their future selves, find articles in papers or online (but keeping them within the context of the day), draw pictures, take photographs, keep a diary, create something that shows their reactions and feelings to this situation we find ourselves in.
“We ask that they then keep them safe, either in a box or online until this has passed.
“This has had a great deal of interest so far, and I was recently sent via email the picture of the most wonderful papier-mache model of an exhausted emergency worker.
“I also believe that some local artists are also working on pieces for this project and these art works can act as companion pieces to the other items that we receive.
“It is hoped at the end of it, and when the museum can finally reopen, that we will have enough material for a small display that you will have all helped make, creating something positive out of this awful situation.
