Police are warning farmers they could be prosecuted if they leave mud on the road.
A number of complaints have been received from members of the public regarding the issue which can be a danger to motorists.
PC Nick Flowers said: "There is an offence under the Highways Act for a vehicle to leave mud on the road which could result in a prosecution.
"In most cases the offending farmer or contractor is requested to clean the roads within a reasonable time frame. However, if needed and the farmer can't be contacted, the police can contact the council to do this at a very high hourly rate, which the farmer or contractor is responsible for.
"Please ensure if you use the roads, you leave them as you found them - without any potential hazards for motorists."
