Simon Hart MP knew Ironman Wales was popular but he was amazed when a video he posted to Facebook of the event was viewed nearly 40,000 times.
“I was in Tenby watching the start of the swim and filmed a short clip on my phone of the Welsh national anthem; it is such a stirring sight and sound with the huge crowds and thousands of athletes lined up,” he explained.
He uploaded the film ’2000 athletes, 40 countries, Ironman Wales gets off to a flying start in Tenby!’ whilst the slower swimmers were still competing and it took on a life of its own, getting shared 454 times and viewed 38,000 times.
“I think the most popular video I have ever posted before has had about 400 views so I was completely amazed,” he added. “I guess it was just a case of right place, right time.
“I supported in Saundersfoot and Tenby all day and it was an incredible event, I am delighted to hear that it’s staying in Tenby for at least one more year and I will do what I can to try to retain it here.
“So many athletes taking part say that Ironman Wales IS Tenby, it just wouldn’t be the same without our beautiful scenery and the overwhelming support.”
