The competitors in the November monthly medal arrived back in the clubhouse somewhat shell-shocked and rather weary.

The round had taken longer than usual and was a lot tougher than in recent months.

No one seems too sure who is the sadist on the club committee who decided that the medal should be played from the club's 'championship tees'. These tees traditionally have only been used for events like the Golden Eagle or Welsh Strokeplay, when it comes to Tenby. Certainly in the last 40 odd years they have not been used for monthly medals.

Having said all that, the club's 'top golfers' revelled in what could be said was 'a true test of golf', with fine rounds from Mark Poole, John Gottwaltz, Bob Follon and Brian Cramb, Mark's 70 gross being the outstanding score of the day.

A true reflection of the difficulties may be seen from the scores in division two (handicaps 13-28) - only six competitors able to better 90 gross!

Fittingly, Dudley Williams with the best gross of 86 won division two's medal with a fine net 67.

Leading scores in the two disisions were as follows:

Division one (up to 12): Mark Poole 70-1-69 (medal and turkey, best last 9); Bob Follon 74-5-69 (£25 credit); Richard Ormond 77-6-71, John Gottwaltz 72-1-71 (£12 credit each); Paul Hoyland 79-6-73, Phil Keating 85-12-73.

Division two: (13-28): Dudley Williams 86-19-67 (medal and turkey); David Morgan 89-19-70 (£20 credit); Paul Fairclough 87-15-72, Phil Marsden 90-18-72, Michael Schooling 88-16-72 (£9 credit each); Jason Taylor 90-17-73.

Entries of 57 in division one and 60 in division two, making 117 competitors in all, was probably close to the highest number ever for the club's monthly medal!

Turkey trot stableford

The previous week's Medal appeared to take its toll on the Turkey Trot, with only 57 players taking part last Saturday.

Leading scores: Brian Cramb 37 pts. (turkey); John Gillespie, Richard Davies 36 pts. (£17 credit each); Neil Lovett 35 pts. (£10 credit); Bob Parson 34 pts.
