KIDWELLY 12 pts
TENBY UNITED nil
Tenby United have had mixed fortunes so far in National League division four (west) and it was the same story on Saturday as they slumped to their fifth defeat in 10 outings.
Again discipline was a bit of a problem for the Seasiders as they became frustrated by a lack of quality possession, with Kidwelly landing three penalties and a drop goal to notch up a 12-nil win.
The victory for Kidwelly at Parc Stephens, which sees them leap-frog the United in mid-table, was well deserved, as their bulkier pack dominated in the loose.
Although skipper Richard Rossiter led by example and boilerhouse colleagues Nicky Allen, Lee Tucker, Scott Payne, Paul Broaders, Nick Roch, Anthony Griffiths and youngster Gareth James gave 110 per cent, they could not secure enough usable phase ball to be effective.
Half-backs Will Crockford and Bleddyn Evans tried to get their line moving, but ran into trouble against the tight Kidwelly defence, although Tenby were just as effective in defence and there was well over half-an-hour on the clock before there were any points on the board.
Both teams had their chances, but going into the last 10 minutes of the second quarter it was Kidwelly who gained the psychological advantage, with outside-half Leighton Walters banging over two penalties and a drop-goal to give the homesters a nine-point interval lead.
Pivot Evans and fullback Darren Rees both missed a couple of penalties for the Seasiders, and another opportunity went begging after the change around, before Walters effectively ended a hard fought match as a contest with his third successful penalty.
Tenby will be hoping to return to winning ways tomorrow (Saturday) when they face the challenge of mid-table rivals Kenfig Hill at Heywood Lane.
Tenby fielded: Darren Rees, Jonathan Dodd, Paul Luger, Sion Brace, Gavin Brace, Bleddyn Evans, Will Crockford, Lee Tucker, Richard Rossiter (capt). Scott Payne, Gareth James, Paul Broaders, Nicky Allen, Anthony Griffiths, Nick Roch.
