A mischievous moggy which gave coastguards and firemen the runaround has used one of its nine lives in surviving a 12-day cliff ordeal.
As reported in last week's issue, members of the emergency rescue services were called out a week last Saturday to help rescue a cat stuck on a ledge 30-foot down a 70-foot cliff opposite Tenby's Clarence Hotel on The Esplanade.
Watched by a crowd of onlookers coastguard team member Dai Robbins was rigged up and lowered down the cliff, while firemen on the beach directed him to the feline's position.
However, on approaching it, the cat, obviously reluctant to be rescued, disappeared into one of the crevices.
As it looked well fed and was extremely agile, the rescue was terminated.
However, just over a week later, the story had a happy ending after former hotelier, Lynn Delabertouche, of Sherbourne, Sutton Street, read in the Observer of the rescue operation.
"My seven-year-old cat, Jade, had been missing since the previous Monday and it was just too much of a coincidence that it would be another cat," said Lynn.
"I had been looking everywhere for her and when I read the story in the 'paper I phoned Milford Coastguards to get a description of the cat and then went down onto the beach," she continued.
"I started called up the cliff and behold out came Jade from one of the crevices.
"A holidaymaker, who I think was French, then came along and volunteered to climb up and get the cat. He wrapped her in a fleece and passed her down to various other people.
"He was extremely brave and I cannot thank everyone enough who helped. The beach was packed at the time and people were clapping and cheering.
"I really don't know how Jade got onto the ledge. I can only think she had fallen, but she wasn't injured, although I did take her to the vet's to be checked over.
"She was so excited to be home and didn't really know what to do first, but she really should have known better.," concluded Lynn.
