Plaid Cymru Member of the European Parliament for Wales, Jill Evans, met with representatives of Tenby Golf Club recently, following the recent storms that hit the course and the county.

She met with club captain, Tony Key, manager and general secretary, David Hancock, and local Plaid Cymru councillor, Michael Williams, and discussed erosion problems and attempts to secure funding to put it right.

Six yards of the course were lost in a few days due to the recent storms.

When compared with 40 yards of erosion over the last 50 years, it brings into focus the urgency with which the issue needs to be addressed.

Jill Evans MEP said: "The golf club is of economic and environmental importance to Tenby.

"The erosion of the sand dunes is damaging to the environment in a protected area and threatens the future of the greens.

"As the second highest ranked course in Wales and the oldest in the country, we need to ensure its future.

"The officials at the club have worked hard to make it the success it is today, including developing links with clubs in France, Spain, England, Ireland, Portugal and the Basque Country.

"Developments are taking place now on site which will attract more young people to play golf using the latest computer generated technology.

"I will be looking into possible sources of funding to help the club carry out the necessary work to protect the course and the dunes," she added.
