Friends of serviceman Nick Webster-Smith will be remembering him with affection at Christmas in one of his favourite places - the football pitch.
Former classmates from Tenby's Greenhill School are planning a sporting get-together on December 27 in memory of the 24-year-old Royal Military Police corporal who was one of five soldiers killed by a rogue Afghan policeman in Helmand Province last month.
Nick, who spent his teenage years in Ludchurch and Saundersfoot, was an enthusiastic soccer player who turned out for both Kilgetty's and Tenby's junior teams.
And those who played alongside him in the keenly-contested games in the Pembrokeshire league will be lining up at Kilgetty sports field for the festive memorial match.
Amongst them are Tom Dennis and Andrew Prout, who are organising the event.
Said Tom - one of the local friends who attended Nick's funeral in Brackley, Northamptonshire: "We all remember the friendly rivalry between the Tenby and Kilgetty boys when we were in school, and we want this to be our own local derby to celebrate Nick's life and his love of football."
The match will be raising money for the charities which were chosen by Nick's family to receive donations at the funeral. Each player will contribute £5, and there will be a bucket collection on the day.
Added Tom: "We hope as many spectators as possible will turn out to support us. If the pitch is waterlogged, the game will be held on Tenby Astroturf, but wherever the venue, we'll be having a get-together in Kilgetty Sports Club afterwards with food and a few drinks."
The match kicks-off at 1.30 pm on Sunday, December 27, and any potential player who has not yet been notified can call Tom on 07855 893705 or Andrew on 07970 476822.
