Manorbier Castle was once again under siege last week for the Rotary Club of Tenby's annual Medieval Fayre. With outstanding weather, the event proved a resounding success. The Mayor of Tenby, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, opened the event and then proceeded to join in the fun of the fayre with her escorts. The attractions on offer this year included the Tenby Brass Band, The Rain Kings, Juggling Circus Workshops, James the fire-eater, and the Collegiate of Knights Templar, all of whom thoroughly entertained appreciative crowds. This year, as they queued to enter the castle, the audience were entertained by jugglers and a guard of the Knights Templar, which was set to the background music of Tenby Brass Band. In the castle they were greeted by a variety of stalls, 'Roll a Coin', 'Wheel of Fortune', 'Bat-a-Rat' and many more, all manned by the Rotarians, their families and their friends. Everyone was a winner thanks to the generosity of the Tenby town shops who had donated an abundance of prizes to be given away on the stalls. The castle was full of music from the sounds of The Rain Kings and there were several demonstrations of the Knights Templar doing battle by sword, mace and axes. Very popular stalls, as always, were the bar, barbecue and Welsh cakes stand. Home-made Welsh cakes were produced by the ladies of the Inner Wheel Club of Tenby, who totally sold out well before the end of the evening, as did the bar and barbecue. There was a welcome visit by the local police helicopter, which made an 'unexpected' fly-past to the amazement of the crowds, for which the club members were very grateful. Stephen Williams, chairman of the Manorbier Medieval Fayre committee, said: "I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the continuing success of the annual Medieval Fayre event, particularly everyone at Manorbier Castle for once again allowing the magnificent setting to used for such an enjoyable event and a worthy cause. Money raised at the event will be used to support Rotary charities, locally, nationally, and internationally."
