A woman from Narberth used to suffer severe headaches. That was until she took a food intolerance test and discovered that the loaf of white bread she was eating a day was causing the problem. Fifty-two-year-old Loudamila (Luda) Lewis was addicted to eating white bread. She was tucking into a loaf a day and as a consequence had headaches every day for 17 years. She was also taking eight paracetamols a day, but she's fine now because she took the test and discovered she had an intolerance to yeast. Luda was born in Moscow where she lived and worked as a librarian until she was 44. She married Geoffrey, a Welsh man, and moved to the UK eight years ago after a friend put her picture in front of her future husband in a bar in Cardiff. The two got in touch and rest is history. Luda's headaches go back as far as 17 years ago and she had them every day since. They were so bad, she says she 'couldn't live like this anymore'. Her headaches also meant she could not read books, which wasn't great as she was a librarian. She also couldn't bare to watch TV. Doctors in this country prescribed eight pain killers a day, but Lioudamila realised the long-term effect of this would not be beneficial, plus it wasn't really working to make her better. After finding out about it on the internet, she took a Yorktest 113 foodscan in May last year and discovered she had an intolerance to yeast, soya, vinegar, egg and corn. She cannot eat a loaf of bread a day or any bread for that matter. Within one month, the headaches had all but gone. She does get the occasional headache, but they are not as painful or do not last as long. Luda doesn't work, but she says life is very enjoyable now. She couldn't read or watch TV over the last eight years, so she is making up for wasted time! "Even if I spent £2,000 to get rid of my headaches, it would have been worth it," said Luda. Luda took the Yorktest 113 foodscan, a simple home testing kit which in a recent study by York University was proven to get better over three out of four patients. The way it works is that the patient supplies a tiny pinprick amount of blood and sends it back in the pre-paid envelope to the laboratory at Yorktest. That sample is then tested against 113 foods where the process detects for the presence of antibodies - which are triggered when your body is unable to digest certain proteins. The results are sent back within two weeks and included in the package are two consultations so the patient fully understands the results and is able to implement an elimination diet.
