Super swimmer Bethan Davie, of Tenby, has been selected to compete on behalf of Wales at the 2010 Sainsbury's UK School Games hosted by the North East of England.

Bethan, 14 who attends Greenhill School, Tenby, will compete in the 100m and 200m breaststroke against the UK's school-aged elite being held at the Sunderland Aquatic Centre, from September 2-5.

A delighted Bethan said: "This is the second year I have been selected and I am delighted to have the opportunity to represent Wales once again. It will be very difficult, but I am hoping to defend the two gold medals I won in the same events at last year's competition which was held at the national pool in Swansea."

Olympic gold medallist Rebecca Adlington said: "Congratulations to Bethan on being selected to represent Wales in the Sainsbury's UK School Games. It is a fantastic achievement and something which she should feel extremely proud of. I hope Bethan benefits from the competition, and it proves invaluable in preparing her for her future and I wish her all the best in the swimming event."

The 2010 Sainsbury's UK School Games is the pinnacle sports event for young people competing in the UK and will see 1,600 elite school-aged athletes descend on the North East to participate in four days of exciting competition across 10 sports.
